Balloon Fun Fact!

Balloon Fun Fact:

People used hydrogen instead of helium to inflate balloons. Though Hydrogen lifted the balloons much higher, it was highly flammable and dangerous.

Balloon Tip of the Day

Always make sure that you estimate the correct ammount of balloons for any event you are decorating, before the day of the event. The worst thing you can do is have an ellaborate design planned out and not have enough balloons the day of the event.

Also it is good to order your supplies so that they are there a week before the event. (if you can help it). Sometimes there are shipping problems, and you want to make sure that you have your materials on time!

Cool Column!!!

Yesterday I talked about how columns incorporate simple elegence to an event or speaking engagement. However I didn't discuss the fact that they can be as fun and imaginative as you can make them.

Tip of the Day:
Make your columns fun by adding multiple colors, and differents size balloons. You can also add different kinds such as Geo Donuts and Mylars.

Spiral Arches are great for all occasions. A Spiral Arch can be made by using helium, fishing wire, and balloons. When doing a Spiral Arch outside, it is best to use 12' in balloons are larger. There is really no limit to how many spiral colors you can have. Some Spiral Arches are made using quads (4 or more balloons for each row) others are made using much more.

Here are some examples of a spiral arch with 2 colors:

This tank made completely out of muluticolored balloons is absolutely amazing. You could not imagine how much time this must have took. The balloons used for the body looks like the y are about 12 inch and the balloons used for the shooting mechanism seems like they are made of balloons that are a little larger, (maybe 16 inches).

Decorating Tips

Decorating Tip of the Day:

If you can help it, always make sure you see your space before you decorate it. Alot of times people will call you and ask you for some unreasonable decor, like an arch in the middle of winter outdoors. Or sometime they will ask for a huge column in a cramp crowded dining area.

I remember one event I decorated for, the curtains totally clashed with the theme. When you are able to take a look at the space first, you can make arrangements. I had the people in charge remove the curtains before the party.

Also, make sure that you speak to the people in charge of the party hall or space. Sometimes certain places don't like you to use tacks, or nails, and the people you are decorating for order something that requires tacks and nails.

The only thing you want to worry about on decorating is decorating. Save yourself the hassle, and see the space before you decorate.

Want something a little more conservative?

Try these animal print balloons, they are a lot less colorful, but still lots of fun.

Pearlized Balloons..very Classy!!!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. The topic for today is Pearlized Balloons. I personally love Pearlized Balloons. For those of you who don't know what they are, they are the really shiny balloons. Pearlized Balloons catch the light really well and look really classy when assembled properly on a Column or Arch.

Alot of people try to save money, by buying the regular matt (non shiny) Balloons, because they are alot cheaper. I say if you are having a classy event, such as a Birthday Party for an older person, a Wedding etc, you should spend the extra money on Pearlized Balloons.

If you are having an indoor party especially. It is not so important if you are having a party outdoors on a really sunny day. I remember one time I was decorating for a store's grand opening on a hot summer day and I had spent money on these really nice Pearlized blue and gold balloons. 5 minutes after I assembled them outdoors, the balloons lost their pearlization.

So tip of the day: Pearlized Balloons are nice and classy for indoor events, but for outdoor events, be careful, because the sun could make them loose their shiny luster.

My next new post will be on Monday.
Have a Nice Weekend...

Under the Sea Theme with Balloons

(Pic Provided by: http://www.balloonhq.com/photos/ricafesta2002/atlantis/octopusHQ.jpg)

A festive underwater theme adds excitement to any party.
So Maybe you are thinking, "Wow this is gorgeous, but I could never build a display this elaborate." Good News, you don't have to know how to copy this display to achieve an underwater look.
In order to achieve an underwater theme for your party, you can string up air filled, or use helium filled balloons with weights and strategically place them around your party for a cool underwater look.

For the best result, you can use 12 in ch balloons, 9 inch balloons and 5 inch balloons for variation. You can also hang clusters of balloons at ceiling level for a more submerged feel.
Tip: Be sure to use fishing wire to string your balloons so that the string is invisible and it gives the illusion that the bubbles are floating.

Technorati Profile

How to make a Spiral Table Arch

My Mom used to be a balloon decorator when I was a little girl. I remember her making gorgeous spiral arches for weddings and retirement parties.

...So naturally when I decided to go into balloon decorating, the first thing I tried was a Spiral Table Arch.

When I called my Mom all the way in Southern California to tell her what I was going to attempt...she said, "Try doing one color first, and then trying the spiral tequnique, its easier!"

I am here to tell you today, that You Can start off with the spiral tequnique...
Materials: Table Arch kit (buy online or any party supply store)
12' inch latex balloons 2 colors
A Table
Air Blower (you didn't think you were going to blow them up yourself did you?)
Step One: Connect balloon Table Arch Kit to the Table (follow the directions on the kit)
Step Two: Once Table arch is assembled, you will need 4 balloons, 2 of each color to start
The first row of you Quad. (A Quad is a term used in balloon decorating for
describing 4 balloons tied together).
Step Three: blow up the 4 balloons (2 of each color) that you have selected. Twist the 2
balloons of the same color together to form a bow like shape. Do the same with
the other 2 of the same color.
Step Four: to make a quad connect the two bow like structures together by joining them and
twisting them in the middle. (If your quad is not staying together don't panic, just
reenforce them by twisting multiple times)
Step Five: Now it is time to assemble the quad to your table arch poles. make sure your quad is twisted in a way that the colors are next to the opposite colr on both sides.
Fit the pole in between on side of your quad, and then twist until
the 2 opposite colors are on the same side.
Step Six: you will repeat steps 1 through 5. but when you add your quad to
your arch you will twist it in a way that the colors start to slant. you will
Repeat this slanting motion going counterclockwise until you have
completely covered the poles in balloons.
Tips: Always remember to keep pushing your balloons down in the center when they are
on the pole for a tight crisp look.
If your arch is not spiraling start from the bottom and retwist to get the desired look
Be Patient...this can be very time consuming, but the look is much better than a single
color Arch
Have fun!!!!!

Balloons...simple yet complex

Every child has seen their first balloon when they are maybe 1 or 2 years old.
We thought they were soo appealing floating in the air or posted by our cake table at our birthday parties.

How can something so engrained in our mental fascination loose its meaning over time?

When did balloons stop becoming cool?

For me they stopped becoming cool when I was about ten.

Now many years later I find myself reaquainted with my love affair with balloons and decorating.

Balloons....simple, yet very Complex.
